Sniff one--it can make you feel calmer

Japanese researchers recently found that when animals under stress were exposed to the compound linalool-- a fragrant substance found in lemons, as well as in mango, lavender, basil, and some teas--they experienced lower levels of inflammatory chemicals in their blood, compared with another group that did not smell the linalool. Inhaling the scent also reduced the activity of more than 100 genes that are activated during stressful situations.
