WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?

THE LATEST ADVANCES IN PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
Achy joints, muscle pain, fever, and fatigue can all be symptoms of lupus, a debilitating and potentially deadly disease of the immune system. Eight out of 10 new cases are diagnosed in women between the ages of 15 and 45. But a new survey from the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) reveals that most women--and men--in this vulnerable age group wouldn't recognize the i warning signs and may spend years feeling sick because they haven't gotten help.

Not-so-common symptoms include skin rashes on the face, neck, and scalp, a butterfly-shaped red patch over the nose and cheeks, sensitivity to sunlight, hair loss, fingers turning white or blue when temperatures drop, and mouth or nose ulcers. For a lupus self-test, click on www.prevention.com/links to reach the LFA's Web site. If you have any of these symptoms, tell your doctor.
