Abstract:The article reports that 15 patients with bipolar disorder consumed a diet that contained less than 10 percent of the usual amount of inositol. Out of the 15, six of them were rapid cyclers who had responded inadequately to lithium or valporate in different phases of the illness, two were lithium-treated out-patients and seven were lithium-treated in-patients. Results of the clinical trial showed a marked reduction in the severity of the disease in 10 of the patients.
